Meyer lemon

The Garden in Winter

The garden has had a good crop of Meyer lemons in December and January.

Welcome to the garden in 2019! My name is Laurie Gates, and I am the new PCC Garden manager. I love the cooler temperatures this time of year which allow all gardens some R&R downtime. I am in the process of clearing out beds and planting cover crop. The much appreciated recent rains help breakdown added compost and plant residues left in the soil to add nutrients for the upcoming spring planting.

We still have perennial herbs producing this winter such as parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.

Harvested herbs for the chef, 1-1-19.

The garden’s ‘Nagami’ kumquat, mint and lavender are all going strong this winter.
