Our Garden

The PCC garden consists of 4,000 square feet of growing space across the street from the Putah Creek Cafe. It includes 20 raised beds of herbs, vegetables, fruit and flowers, and newly planted borders of young fruit trees, more herbs, ornamental and insectary plants (planted Fall 2016).

We employ an "ethically organic" set of practices: the garden is not certified organic, but we make use of sustainable agricultural practices including the use of organic, heirloom, and open-pollinated seeds, cover crops and OMRI certified compost.

We employ integrated pest management methods, a bio-intensive growing approach, and produce our flowers and food without the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides. All work is done by hand. We use garden produce for our dinner menu, and in cocktails, desserts, and drinks at the cafe. Last but not least, floral bouquets at the cafe come from the garden, too -- grown and arranged weekly by our gardener, Maggie La Rochelle.
